Good Jam Session

Had an awesomely fun 5 hour jam session today with Colin and Conrad, here’s some highlights.
Parallel Pens are COOL

I wanted to try my hand at calligraphy so I went looking for a fountain pen or dip pen to experiment with, and ended up finding Pilots’ crazy Parallel Pens – pens without a funny nib composed of two thin metal plates.
Custom Wound Guitar Pick Pickup

While I was building my first guitar, I got interested in winding my own custom pickups. I experimented with a few things, made a bunch of oddball pickups. Including this teeny tiny one mounted on the back of a guitar pickup:

How To: Photography Post Production with Photoshop (And Lightroom)

Follow along as I do some simple tweaking on a couple photos taken by a friend of mine in Pakistan. This will be remedial to experienced Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom users, but might be useful for beginners.
A Song a Week

I’m gonna try and write a song a week. Whether it sucks or not. I vow to produce something each week, and move on! Theoretically I will get better at writing songs… Theoretically… At the least it’ll keep me from playing the same riffs over and over for a month. In the unlikely event that [...]
Things I learned about building guitars

Here is a poorly written, hastily compiled list of things I learned while building my first home made guitar. Not exactly a How To, more like a Be Sure To Remember.
Guitar Building Pt. 4: Drippy

Well my home made guitar is done, and named. She’s called Drippy, named after either a bad experience in the 70’s, or my (lack of) lacquer spraying skills. I can’t believe this used to be boards!
Building My Guitar Pt. 3

Continuing saga of my custom guitar build… Les Paul ish, less than spectacular looking, but pretty damn good for my first try. I shaped the neck and glued it in, and I’m trying finishes out on scrap wood (and the first crap neck I built that got scrapped). Aniline water based dye, and then nitro [...]
Finally, A Photography Update
It’s been awhile… Here’s a sneak peak from my latest photoshoot. More to come when I’m done fiddling in Photoshop!
Building a Guitar

Well, I’ve been locked up in a room making sawdust for the last week. I’m building a guitar. From scratch.
Some pictures of how it’s coming so far: (Ignore the dates, I’m using some cheap old camera so I don’t have to worry about the sawdust killing it)
Sketchbooks
My journal fell apart the other day. Which pissed me off, because I like to write in nice leather bound journals. Anyway, I copied everything interesting over to a new one, and reading the old stuff made me open up my old sketchbooks. I used to draw a lot. I don’t think I was very [...]
Stop Motion

How nerdy am I? Here’s all the little stop motion things I’ve done. With my Transformers and Gundams. That’s how nerdy.
Edit: Ok I lied, this video appears to only be the Transformers stuff. Gonna upload the Gundam ones next.
Holy Crap!

Robert Shields added me as a friend on Facebook! How friggin cool is that? He’s one of my heroes!
Custom Painted Bumblebee

Yes, I am a huge, huge nerd. How nerdy? When the first live action Transformers movie came out, I started buying the new line of Transformers toys. I went all over the place looking for the Bumblebee 2008 Camaro. And then bought a bunch, and then hand painted a few. Even sold one on eBay [...]
How To Play Angel’s Son

Here’s how to play Angel’s Son by Sevendust. It’s in a funky “limp floppy string” low tuning: C#-G#-C#-F#-B-C#
The Downside To Shooting Your Lover

Shooting with a camera I mean. It’s pretty self evident the downside to shooting your lover in other ways, however tempting it might be at times. Anyway, this is something I realized after my last relationship ended earlier this year:
$150 Space Camera

There is an article on Wired describing two MIT students who sent a camera up high enough to photograph the curvature of Earth. For a $148 budget. Now that is just ridiculously cool!
Check out the article now!
Photography Guilt

Of not seeing the forest for the trees. (Among other things, I’m sure)
As I was uploading some more pictures from my shoot with Kerrie, I was writing comments about some of the photos that I liked. And I realized that some of the photos I liked and was commenting on, I liked for photographer-specific reasons. [...]
